A Smart and Sustainable Guide to Visiting Torino

Torino offers a blend of culture, nature and local food traditions. It's time to explore Torino, the 2025 European Capital of Smart Tourism!

Torino

A former industrial city, Torino is gradually changing into a modern tourism gem, providing an accessible, sustainable and digitally enhanced tourism experience for all. The change is evident in the city’s recent recognition as the 2025 European Capital of Smart Tourism, an award given to European cities by the European Commission.

An immersive cultural experience

Home to the famous Egyptian Museum, the National Museum of Cinema and many art galleries, the city is enhancing its cultural offer by integrating the latest digital technologies. The city’s cultural attractions feature AI and virtual reality (VR) applications, further immersing visitors in the city’s history. Through the TrialsNet project, Torino is becoming a living laboratory for testing innovative solutions that combine culture and new technologies in five of Torino’s major museums. The initiatives not only improve the visitor experience but also reflect the city’s vision of blending tradition with the future, creating cultural experiences that are increasingly engaging, accessible and sustainable. The city itself can be explored using NETA (Navigation Exploring Tourist Assistance), a personal AI-powered guide. It makes it easier to learn about the city in over 50 languages and access real-time travel insights.

Torino

From industry to tourism

Torino’s industrial past is still at the heart of the city, but it has now taken on a new look. The former Lingotto Car Factory now houses a shopping centre, a congress hall and the Pinacoteca Agnelli art gallery. Another transformation, the former railway station OGR-Officine Grandi Riparazioni, is now a creative hub for art, music and tech start-ups. Looking for a unique experience? Parco Dora, once home to Fiat and Michelin factories, now hosts the Kappa FuturFestival one of Europe’s top music events.

An inclusive destination for all

Getting around the city is made simple with the help of the Turismabile platform, which provides accessibility information on hotels, restaurants and cultural sites, ensuring a seamless experience for all visitors. Torino prides itself not only on its physical accessibility, but also on its affordability. The Torino+Piemonte Card offers great deals on top attractions, allowing everyone to enjoy its heritage and hospitality. Away from the city centre, visitors can explore the beautiful Italian landscape thanks to Torino’s Routes to Nature project, which connects 70 km of scenic hiking trails and 90 km of cycling paths, including the stunning CoronaVerde route, linking lush parks with UNESCO sites.

Trying out the local cuisine

What’s a trip to Italy without trying the famous Italian cuisine! Torino’s culinary heritage is deeply rooted in the Slow Food movement, which emphasises local traditions and sustainability. In the city, visitors can enjoy local wines, handcrafted chocolates and the globally celebrated Terra Madre Salone del Gusto food festival – a must for all foodies. As well as wine and chocolate, a must try in Torino is its vermouth, renowned worldwide for its rich tradition and historic production. With its commitment to sustainable gastronomy, Torino offers food lovers an unforgettable culinary journey.
