Inclusive mobility for all
Braga prioritises mobility and inclusion for all its residents and visitors by implementing comprehensive urban planning strategies, improving public transport and creating pedestrian-friendly infrastructure. The city has introduced digital tools such as Braga Ciclável and Geoportal WebSIG, which offer real-time navigation and interactive mobility solutions. Braga is implementing a series of measures to improve the accessibility and sustainability of public transport. The electrification of the TUB bus fleet and the development of a Bus Rapid Transit lane, which will provide dedicated lanes to reduce travel time, reflect a strong commitment to clean and efficient travel. These actions make mobility practical, inclusive, and environmentally responsible. Additionally, the city has implemented initiatives such as inclusive school transport and Destiny4All tours, which guarantee equal access for diverse groups.
Culture that connects the past and the future
Braga combines innovation with heritage to promote smart and sustainable cultural tourism. The Braga Cultura 2030 strategy aims to make culture accessible and inclusive for all, bringing together major events, creative industries, and local traditions. As a UNESCO Creative City in Media Arts, Braga invests in digital heritage projects, AR-enhanced sites, and cultural hubs like the GNRation. The city promotes engagement through interactive themed routes and the Braga Heritage Passport, which highlight both iconic landmarks and lesser-known sites. Events such as the Holy Week and São João integrate sustainable practices and contemporary artistic approaches, to ensure that cultural traditions remain dynamic and environmentally conscious. Historic neighbourhoods and traditional shops are preserved through the Historic Shops Network, which reinforces community identity and offers visitors a unique and authentic experience. The restoration of degraded buildings under initiatives such as REABILITA BRAGA connects heritage preservation with urban rehabilitation and local economic revitalisation.
A smart city for people
Braga is a forward-thinking digital city where technology, culture, and inclusion meet. Public Wi-Fi, digital administrative services, and open data platforms increase efficiency and transparency. Digital information systems such as TOMI provide real-time information about tourist attractions, events, local businesses, transport and dining options. This digital kiosk gives residents and visitors easy access to information, creating a more connected city. The SmartGuide app enhances the tourism offer with audio guides that automatically detect when the user is near a monument. The city participates in the Intelligent Cities Challenge and hosts digital art initiatives under its UNESCO Media Arts designation. Initiatives such as the iTech Tourism and Braga Media Arts foster creativity and youth-led innovation, involving diverse community groups.
Building a green future
Braga sees sustainability as a shared commitment. The city uses innovation and civic engagement to make tourism sustainable. The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS) aims to reduce emissions by prioritising walking, cycling, and clean transport. Developed with citizens and institutional input, it includes locally tailored measures to encourage acceptance and use of public transport. Furthermore, Braga is taking action to reforest degraded areas, restore rivers, and create green spaces such as Parque Norte and the future Eco Monumental Park of Sete Fontes and Parque São Martinho. These efforts are part of a broader investment in green infrastructure, including new parks, river renaturalisation and restoration of 1,200 hectares of land. Through these actions, Braga links environmental protection with urban resilience, thereby ensuring long-term benefits for both residents and visitors.
